Here at Rock Licks Guitar Tuition the week just keeps getting better. After Rock legend Queen guitarist Brian May agreed to judge our guitar competition the story wasnt just in the Shields Gazette but actually reached the national press and made an appearance in the Daily Mirror
It's been a big week here at Rock Licks Guitar Tuition as Queen guitarist Brian May agreed to pick the winner of our Brian May Wannabe's Guitar Video Competition Full story in December 7th 2015 Gazette - click
The winner will be announced on brianmay.com later this week
Here at Rock Licks Guitar Tuition we decided to run a competition. Those who use the Rock Licks YouTube Channel were asked to send their videos in of themselves playing Queen on guitar, The lovely people at brianmay.com said they'd pick the winner who'd win a bagful of sixpences (Brian May uses old sixpence as a plectrum) To our surprise Brian May himself agreed to pick the winner (still to be announced) Runner up was announced yesterday on Brian's Soapbox which was young Mia Blixt from Chicago
Brian said: Mia is evidently pretty young, but has technique and flair and some courage, I’d say. The Brighton Rock thing is great fun to do - with the double delay … but it’s not quite as easy as it looks. Most people find it gets out of hand quite easily. What I like about Mia here is she’s not copying any of my performances at all … she’s got used to the technique and is doing her own thing. She’s feeling it out as she goes … and she never falters to wait for the catch-up. She also has given this some shape - even in this short clip you can feel the intensity building and ebbing according to how she’s feeling it. Love it. Had to give this honorable mention. WELL DONE.

Queen Fat Bottomed Girls Guitar Play Along with on screen guitar tablature. This is the single verson found on Queen Greatest Hits which differs from the 1978 album Jazz version
Guitar is drop D Tuning (Bottom E String Tuned Down To D)
"Fat Bottomed Girls" is a song by the British rock band Queen. Written by guitarist Brian May, the track featured on their 1978 album Jazz, and later on their compilation album, Greatest Hits. When released as a single with "Bicycle Race", the song reached number 11 in the UK Singles Chart, and number 24 in the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
The song is formed around an open bluesy, metallic guitar tuning, with the tune opening with its chorus. It was one of the few Queen songs played in an alternative guitar tuning, being played in drop D tuning. The song's music video was filmed at the Dallas Convention Center in Texas in October 1978
The song featured a different vocal arrangement from the studio recording when performed live. In live performances, the lead vocals during the chorus were sung by Freddie Mercury and harmonised with an upper voice (Roger Taylor) and a lower voice (Brian May). In the studio version, there is no higher harmony. The lead vocals on the verses are sung by Freddie Mercury, while Brian May sings lead vocals on the chorus.
The single version (which can be found on Greatest Hits) omits the extended guitar interludes between the verses as well as fading out before the ending.
In the US, the 1991 Hollywood Records reissue of Jazz included a bonus remix by Matt Wallace.
In 1992, Organized Konfusion remixed the track for inclusion on the later-cancelled BASIC Queen Bootlegs compilation. This version included an alternate vocal track by Mercury, as well as hip-hop production and added rap verses.
"Fat Bottomed Girls" was released as a double A-side with the song "Bicycle Race", and includes the line "Get on your bikes and ride 'em". "Bicycle Race" contains the lyrics "Fat bottomed girls, they'll be riding today/So look out for those beauties, oh yeah",completing a double cross-reference between the two songs.
